De Broeders in Christus

The basis of our faith

Christadelphians believe that the Bible is currently the only source of information about God and His plan with the earth. So Bible study plays an important part in our lives. We try to read the Bible daily and our meetings for Bible study are just as much part of our spiritual life as the weekly Breaking of Bread service. We believe that after the times of the apostles, many Greek ideas came to influence Christian beliefs and that the transformation from the church to a State Church under Constantine led to many practices that do not have their origin in Bible teaching. During the Middle Ages, this situation became even more entrenched and the Reformation only partially rectified the problem. Only a return to unprejudiced Bible study can bring the original message to light.

We see the Bible as a complete entity, with the Old Testament being as important as the New. We believe, like the Apostle Paul, that "the gospel was preached before unto Abraham", because its basis is the promises made to the patriarchs. We do not see the Bible as a series of separate doctrinal points with little or no connection, and certainly not as just a series of ethical principles. In fact, we see the Bible as a consequential revelation of God's dealings with the world and its people; we see in it a plan which has both a beginning and an end.

"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."

Psalm 119:105
